BOUND BROOK, NJ — The Bound Brook PTO, in partnership with the Bound Brook Education Association (BBEA) and RideWise will host a free Bike Rodeo on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Bound Brook Recreation Tea Street Complex Paved Lot. The event is open to students ages 7–13 who are able to ride a bike without training wheels.
The Bike Rodeo will feature hands-on bike safety education through obstacle courses, safety tips, and helmet & bike fittings. Limited bicycles & helmets will be available at no cost to participants, provided on a first-come, first-served basis based on signup order.
The free bicycles & helmets for this event were made possible through an NJEA Pride in Public Education Partnership (PEP) grant, championed by Maureen Ryan, BBEA PEP Chair. Ryan approached the Bound Brook PTO about partnering on the initiative. PEP grants are awarded by the NJEA to strengthen New Jersey's public schools through community support and involvement.
The Bound Brook PTO and BBEA developed the idea with a shared goal of encouraging kids to get outside, stay active, and step away from screens. Recognizing that safety concerns — including road awareness, riding skills, and traffic — can be a barrier for many families, it only made sense to partner with RideWise, who created the Bike Rodeo as a fun, educational experience that addresses those concerns head-on.
RideWise, a nonprofit dedicated to bicycle safety and education, will lead the rodeo activities and is also conducting safety assemblies at Smalley Elementary School in advance of the event to build interest and awareness among students. RideWise is Somerset County’s go-to partner for information, education and resources related to sustainable transportation. Learn more at www.ridewise.org
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to register their children early due to limited equipment availability
